Fortified Fitness is owned and operated by licensed physical therapists, which sets us apart from most CrossFit gyms. With our in-house outpatient physical therapy clinic, Anatomy Optimized, we bridge the gap between rehab and performance. We pride ourselves on our warmups, workouts, and cooldowns that are conducive to long-term health and wellbeing.
The majority of our classes are coached by our physical therapists. The other classes are coached by committed, long-time members. We are committed to moving safely, progressing intelligently, and training in a way that supports real life outside the gym. Whether you’re recovering from an injury, new to CrossFit, or an experienced athlete looking to train smarter, Fortified Fitness AZ offers a level of care, education, and coaching you won’t find in a typical CrossFit gym.
If you are new to CrossFit, we’d love to have you! Our community welcomes folks of all skill levels. IF you have the opportunity to create an account in StreamFit and sign our waiver in advance, that would be great! If not, be sure to come to class 10-15 minutes early. This is also a great chance to introduce ourselves and we will show you around the facility.
If you’d like to learn more before your first class, feel free to give us a call or text at (480) 440-4469. We’re happy to help!
Functional vs traditional strength training both have their benefits. Functional training focuses on movement patterns rather than specifically isolating individual muscle groups. The goal is to build strength in ways that already support real-life activities, sport, and daily movement. On the flip side, traditional strength training takes a more conventional approach to increasing muscle growth through isolating muscle group and progressively increasing load.
For example, a functional approach to increasing upper back, trap, and grip strength would be doing farmer carries. The traditional strength training comparative would be a dumbbell shrug. Both yield great results, and they both have a time and place!
What is so great about CrossFit training is that it bridges the gap between functional vs traditional strength training. A skill for the class may be back squat, but the “WOD” could include more athletic movements like rowing, burpees, running, or gymnastics!
